Who we are

The Mediterranean Center of Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy is an open and independent international network of experts from Euro-Mediterranean Universities and Hospitals focused on cutting-edge research and education within the Global Health framework  to strengthen research, healthcare, education and building capacity infrastructures on antimicrobial agents and pollutants in all countries from the Mediterranean basin.

MediCA²C is a non-profit organization that brings together experts in clinical medicine, veterinary science, environment, human health, and social sciences from the Mediterranean region.

Our objectives

Our objectives are to implement initiatives for surveillance, education, research and innovation to enhance long-term financial and sustainable development to tackle antimicrobial resistance.

Our Missions

  • Build a collaborative network for surveillance, research, and education on AMR/AMU in a One Health perspective
  • Promote capacity building through educational programs, training, and skill transfer
  • Create international collaborations, through innovative research strategies and integrated data platforms (epidemiology, genomics, bioinformatics)
  • Support the formation of research consortia for national and international grants
  • Provide concrete, country-specific recommendations for policymakers and economic stakeholders
  • Share best practices aligned with strong ethical principles and international access/benefit-sharing regulations
  • Strengthen academia–industry partnerships

Our Vision for the Region

The initiative aims to:

  • Improve regional coordination
  • Strengthen AMR/AMU surveillance
  • Develop data-sharing networks across Europe and the MENA region
  • Promote appropriate antibiotic use in human and animal health
  • Raise public awareness
  • Support sustainable practices in the context of climate change
